Welcome to Care On Call Education or “My Midlife Crisis Project”

Welcome to my midlife crisis project! I thought I would let you know what inspired this project, and I plan to cc my husband who just last night asked, “Now why did you choose to do this at 48 years of age when we have just sent our last kid off to college?” There are three reasons that I can think of:

Beth Hawkins Bradley's Family

Actually, this project happened by accident. As our youngest started his last semester of high school, I had this pang of realization that my life would soon be changing. I had always worked part-time, and felt this panicky need to fill up daily schedule. Next, I thought it would be good to figure out what my passion is, and what I’m good at. I love to teach other people in a manner that I call the “Andy Griffith” approach. In wound care translates to sound science mixed with clinical wisdom and lots of common sense. I teach wound care workshops a couple of days a month around the country for Cross Country Education, and am frequently asked for expanded wound care education. Well, here it is. And the third reason I’m doing this is because I love people and have a soft spot for folks with wounds. I still have a busy clinical practice. What I have learned over and over again is that a lot of time and money is wasted treating wounds inappropriately. So this website is aimed at enabling any clinician to do a better job of providing excellent basic wound management. Ultimately I hope to help a whole bunch more people than I could just seeing patients in Columbia SC.

So, here it is. We’ll still be working some bugs out, and I ask for your patience as we get this site perfect. And your suggestions for what you’d like to see next. Our goal will always be to provide you with the education you need when you want it. Finally, I want to let you know about my wonderful team. My family has worked hard and endured a lot of nervous stomping around, and gross photos. Josh and Aaron of Pretty Penny Productions never said “it can’t be done” (even though I’ve realized that it has apparently not been done before like this). They never ran out of patience. And if you call or email, you will likely initially meet Linette, the sweet smart lady who doesn’t let me get away with anything.

Don’t worry, this blog won’t often be so personal. Just needed to let you know what’s behind it.

Talk to you soon, Beth
